I hear so many weak opinions on reciprocal linking, people getting their panties in a twist as they fear ruining a one way link by linking back will cause black hooded men to crash through the windows and kidnap you for medical experiments.

Eric Ward puts the issue to rest with a refreshing clarity of thought, honed by experience and knowledge.

I concur, a great article. This blog from 2006 by Michael Martinez says the same thing, regarding relevant links and reprocating: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-real-problem-with-reciprocal-linking

It *is* a great article, nevertheless its message will not get the great unwashed to hit it off. Sigh.

It’s a shame, as this myth or misinformation harms the interlinking of good sites.

Thanks Lyndon, nice article. It’s amazing how the obvious truths of good SEO, that white hat common sense works, escape so many people.

Well the only problem is in elementary school teachers have taught voting for yourself or bvoting for each other cancels out the vote In simple terms I vote for you....you vote for me they cancel each other out. 1 + 1 = 0 This is why even with 100% reciprocal linking sites are not given a filter. Erics’ article is merely speculation given that Google does not offer any solid comment or policy either way. One way links work well. Don’t fix what’s not broken ;->

Very insightful article. Thanks! @ semadvance , well ultimately most of what we read within our field is speculation, so it doesn’t make the article any less relevent or valid that it is speculation.
