I think thats an excellent idea, I would absolutely subscribe to that type of service
I think its a great idea as well. Are you thinking of a paid service or something you'll be adding within your column at SEL? You discussed last week or a couple of weeks ago that you have fallen victim to spreading yourself too thinly (don't we all in this industry) so wanted to make sure if this is a paid service, that the value will stay coherent over time. Something to think about.
I like to touch on the point in the article. While reviews are a part of the local search algo, I have found that having links on "local" sites are a bigger part. If you can get associated into a network of local websites you have a better chance at moving up in the one box results. We had one client at the #8 spot that had more reviews than the top listing. Looking at the top listing back links we determined that their strength was coming from localized web sites.
+1 That would be a great idea Eric - let us know the details
To answer your question, Eric - yes. :-)
Does this sound like something you'd like me to do here at LinkWeek? It beats the heck out of you having to scan all those headlines yourself, doesn't it?
I guess I'm not seeing how that's different from what any good blogger does, i.e., when they come across some article that they think is valuable to their readers, they write about it and post a link. I certainly value Eric's expertise, and I'm certainly going to check out anything he thinks is noteworthy, but what about about this service is different from what any blogger does...aside from the fact that it passed through Eric's own "editorial filters"?
brilliant! ty
I was thinking that in addition to the editorial filters, I'd include a summary of how to go about getting the link itself. A step by step. For those who are already savvy enough to be reading SEL, this may not be too helpful, but for those who don't have time to bounce from blog to blog and don't know when a link opportunity is presenting itself, it could be useful. I was thinking it would be free, not fee based, or just donation driven. I could run it off wordpress, tag each how-to with keywords, and then it would be self archiving, plus as they age and rot, I could prune them. Later, if it actually has legs, I could password protect it or feebase it to keep spammers form ruining it.
eric
Such a great article! Effective link building sure requires the unique ability to spot opporunities that are difficult to find that others might miss. This article is one of those good ones that reminds us we sometimes (actually pretty much always) need to 'read between the lines' or 'think outside the square' or order to grab an oppurtunity when it presents.
very nice! +1
I'd be up for getting into that
I think that is an excellent idea and a lot of people would benifit from reading your advice and opinion, sign me up!
Below is an example of what I'm envisioning. Obviously this one is only of value to people in this this specific niche, but that's good, because some will be of value to everyone, while others will be nichefied. The topical opportunities that do not apply to your particular situation can simply be ignored. The idea is to have a steady stream of these you can pursue or ignore based on the relevance to your site(s). I'm also thinkiing about keywording it so you only see the ones you want to see.
