From time to time I am asked how someone should go about finding (and hiring) a professional to manage their AdWords (and PPC in general) marketing. While there isn't a "one size fits all" approach I recommend there are a few places to look and things to ask a potential AdWords professional if you are considering using them to manage your AdWords account(s).

I have seem those who have added the Qualified Google Advertising Professional logo on their website without them actually being qualified. To confirm, the logo should be a link to their status on Google's website.

Yea, I probably should have clarified that. Good catch!

It's also important to note that not all pros will be Google 'qualified' - on purpose. Many here will remember the debate when G announced the program - it was discussed that being qualified meant learning the approaches and tactics that Google wanted you to follow, though such tactics (such as bidding high for more visibility) aren't always in line with advertisers' goals.

I intentionally never took that exam for the reason that I don't think passing Google's exam qualifies anyone better to represent an advertiser's interests - it best qualifies you to represent Google's interests.

But, of course, if the hiring company isn't knowledgeable enough to ask detailed technical questions at least they'll know that 'qualified' consultants will know how to use the system and tools within AdWords.

That comment aside, this is a good list that will help many. Thanks for posting it.
