Hitwise has some pretty stunning charts that show the loss of traffic to a site in the car insurance industry that was recently blacklisted by Google. Yikes.....

Does nobody do link analysis anymore???gocompare arent banned by google, otherwise they wouldnt be in the search engines. They just did some silly link buying on these sites that have paid the price with a pr0 slash so no the links dont mean as much hence they get pushed down the rankings. <table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="165" style="border-collapse: collapse; width: 124pt"> <tbody><tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td width="165" height="17" style="height: 12.75pt; width: 124pt">http://www.critix.co.uk/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://currentworldnews.net/2007/10/29/compare-car-insurance-at-gocomparecom/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://www.evenflow.co.uk/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://www.fsoc.co.uk/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://www.karting1.co.uk/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://cars.okayblog.net/2007/02/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://www.pandibia.com/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://www.uglycars.co.uk/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://leftblank.nl/go-compare-insurance-comparison-service-466.html</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://cars.okayblog.net/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://doublehdesign.com/blog/home-and-family/gocompare-review/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://corrinrenee.com/?cat=11</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://homebizblogger.com/2007/10/29/always-comparison-shop/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://thermalblog.co.uk/useful-insurance-comparison-website/</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://corrinrenee.com/?p=1017</td> </tr> <tr height="17" style="height: 12.75pt"> <td height="17" style="height: 12.75pt">http://igorotblogger.blogspot.com/2007/12/sponsored-compare-your-insurace-options.html</td> </tr> </tbody></table>Come on people, lets put our SEO hats back on and put the evil Google hat back in the box.

Site is not banned... hmmm.. Its not got a source for "GoCompare.com faced precisely this dilemma after the search engine picked up on irregular inbound links to its site, causing it to plummet down the rankings." I’d love to know what this "irregular" links are and point them at all the sites I dislike ? hmmmGraphs are great :D

It isn’t a ban it is just a very big penalty. Pretty much the same effect on traffic though, they don’t even rank for their own name:http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=gocompare&btnG=Search&meta=

Hi there - as the author of the post, I thought I’d chip in with a couple of comments. Fisrtly, I agree that the site wasn’t banned from Google, which is why I wrote ’blacklisted’ in inverterd commas.Secondly, we wrote this yesterday following a tip off and at that time there wasn’t much info on the web about what had actually happened. Since then quite a few blog posts have emerged giving a bit more backgound, and I’ve added links to these in the comments box at the bottom of the post. It does seem like paid links were the main culprit. Thanks, Robin

Ban or penalty, that’s quite a punch in the gut. The chart looks like a slope at Vail, and not the bunny slope!
