The downside is youre putting some stock photographer(s) out of work in the name of links.
I dont consider that a downside, Bill. :-) The idea that a single stock photo should cost hundreds of dollars for limited use is ridiculous. I sold six of my photos to the local visitors bureau for less than $400 (wouldve been more if they were all hi-res) and they look every bit as good in the 2008 Visitors Guide (just got the print version) as the expensive stuff. We all have to learn to adapt, photogs are no exception.
And BTW, thanks for submitting this, Wiep. I never thought this wouldve gone hot. :-)
Well Matt, Im sure some think the price of SEO is ridiculous so whats your point? Not all stock photography is expensive, some people shoot stock in volume and sell to those royalty-free inexpensive stock sites where you pay a flat fee for all you want. However, sometimes stock shooters get that once-in-a-lifetime kick ass image and its worth hundreds or even thousands if some big corporation wants an exclusive for that image.Anyway, I suppose if you put them out of business they can pick up SEO as a new career since theyll have all the images they need to get links! ;)
Most people promise to link back but they do not do so. Also, many will use your images, like for example of your product and claim their product is better. Some people go as far as to scrape your images and content to create crappy MFA sites.
