Interesting Article about how it can be dangerous to use Social Networking Sites if you have a tendency give out too much personal information. Good read.

Luckily for me, my public information rarely indicates such crazy ideas as stepping away from the computer. (And it’s a desktop.)

What querty said. But the article is a good reminder; I’m often astounded at how much information people give out, including birthdays.

Set your profiles to "private" and don’t blog about your inane vacations and work days. Send emails to people who might care. Don’t add friends whom you don’t actually know or like. Problem solved.

Good advice Jane! After all, what’s the point of e-mail if you can’t tell friends and family you’re going on vacation and don’t want to hear from them for a week?

This reminds me of those "sign this petition for such a such cause" lists passed around on myspace bulletins; lots of people use their full name on the list! http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/cookbaby.asp

Good advice, thanks. That’s one of the reasons I try to avoid showing my real home address.
