Preliminary results from study show a bias towards the .org extension in Google.

I'm not convinced. According to the SERP, .com is both more powerful and less powerful than a .net.

One thing you might try is to tweak the .net's on-page content to see how much tweaking it takes to have a .net outrank an .org.
