1. Not an option for most clients paying for Flash. HTML version should be blocked via robots.txt.
2. Alternative content is not a function of the DIV but rather the ALT tag. This could be "dangerous" if content is not an exact match.
3. sIFR is the method Google suggests when using Flash.
4. Also worth pointing out that SWFObject has been called dangerous by Dan Crow. Use caution and be certain it's really clean in every single way.
Do not forget about Macromedia Flash Search Engine SDK. This program extracts links and text from a Flash SWF file and returns the data as a HTML document. Learn more about the Flash Search Engine SDK.
beussery, do you mean the flash version should be blocked via robots.txt?
Yes, SEO experts always say having Flash in websites is useless and not SEO-friendly. Good thing there are solutions for Flash now.
@ bnownlater
The SDK is designed for "site search" and doesn't provide the same type of information used in most cases by "web search" engines. It is used by Google but leaves much to be desired.
@ semscholar
Yes, pardon me! I ment to say, the Flash version should be blocked by robots.txt.
@crazycat
I don't think anyone has said Flash is useless it's more the way many Flash developers implement Flash. That said, there is still to this day no "perfect" way to optimize Flash.
I've been researching SEO techniques for Flash websites and came across this article. I found your advice very helpful. The article was very well written and detailed. Thanks.
