And conversely so, this leads to an important point often neglected: What you do not publish on your site will define it. The absence of certain content positions your site against another competitor and allows it to develop an identity among others.

This becomes particularly important when studying what people may be seeking. I've noticed topics I've never bothered to cover getting searched for when checking my logs. After looking at some competitor sites I noticed no one was covering them. It was time to fill the gap. Those topics have become some of my best traffic sources.
