I was checking on one of our client’s rankings today and found the resulting Google SERPs astounding. I’ve seen spammy results before, but nothing quite like this lately. I checked up to the 10th page and found each one was riddled with keyword stuffed Craigslist postings except for a handful of valid entries.

Now that’s sexy egh? Let’s face it, just like Wikipedia, Craigslist.org has a ton of creditability in the SERPs. Google will tweek and alter their results soon enough, and your client will climb back to where he belongs. The click through on the Craigslist ad’s can’t be that great. Where’s your client ranking by the way? Page 2, or further? Has his traffic dropped according to analytics? I’m curious to know.

I have seen service magic do this in my area too. North Jersey. Craigslist generates alot of legitimate traffic for a local business. Have you considered putting your client on there with title tags and a little CSS to make it look nice? If you can’t beat him... provide a better result for Craigslist’s users and Google’s serps, and your client!!

I also have noticed an apparent preference in Google for Craigslist results and I had theorized in this Search Engine Land article that it was because so many in the San Francisco area like Craigslist: http://searchengineland.com/070423-154346.php The preference in Google SERPs for Craigslist pages could possibly indicate a bias by the Google engineers who live in the San Fran area, or it could indicate that some of their testing may have been biased by using too many quality evaluators in the San Fran area.

Interesting read here. Good call LocalHound on calling out service magic for I’ve noticed that as well. Kimber just curious, could your client possibly be a good fit for Google Base since that seems to be an index that’s more user contributed/category focused?
