There have been some very public spats between iconic SEM institutions recently. David Szetela calls for measured calm, pointing out we're all friends: "The Enemies are not inside our circles. They are outside - and they’re not really enemies. They’re paradigms that need to be shifted."

My comments in moderation there, reposting here:

David, I've been saying "whatever" since I left SEW. Just got on with things. Suddenly in the last month, I had a swarm of SEW people pushing SES and SEW stories in a concerted effort on Sphinn, comments here, comments there, boom, boom, boom. I pretty much said "whatever" to that, too, until I got called out as being anti-SES. Sorry, I just couldn't say whatever at that point. But I have no intention of swinging away, and from what SEW has said, they're going to revisit how they've been acting. So already had moved on and wouldn't have commented at all except you're stirring it up again with your open letter. But if you thought something was somehow going to keep going, well, I understand.

Danny - great to see open discussion that will help turn down the volume a bit.

Being well-acquainted with the people on both sides, i can vouch for the fact that there are no "bad people" involved. The dust-ups have been, on some level, fascinating to watch, since one of the root causes is the fact that we're all bending and stretching this brand new communication medium, and by necessity making up the rules as we go along.

Nobody likes to see friends embarrass themsleves - and it seemed like the sum total of discourse was headed in that direction.
