I never spend time measuring keyword density ratios or comparing my density to competitors. I just make sure I have good content and work in the keywords I want to target.
Absolutely right. Well written content that puts the user experience first is always the right way to go. If an article or piece of content is written properly, the main theme or keyword will naturally be emphasised. There is no need to count the number of times you force a keyword into the content, unless you have OCD.
A great panel of experts here, although I think the topic was a no brainer for them. Id take a broad range of synonyms any day over keyword density/stuffing.
You should mention the keyword on the page and key locations (with plurals and stemming variations), but counting keyword density is a waste of time.
Great keyword density post Shaun. I think that certainly puts the issue of keyword density to bed once and for all ;)
Case closed. Now Ive got a great reference article to send to our clients. We keep telling them to be aware of good keywords in the title, body and tag, but beyond that an obsession with density is ridiculous. Just write well and it will all work out.
Brett Tabke adds his views.....feel free to add your comment - if it is good enough it will be added to the article - there was a few who missed out cause they were to busy but as with Bretts I will add it to the main article.
I have never measured it in my 6 years working on SEO. As long as it reads well and the approporiate keyphrases are in there a few times then it usually works well. Of course some tweaking may need to be done at a later date.
