Data Mining is not the right term. Data Mining would be sorting through huge amounts of data searching for patterns. I think the correct title would be "Scraping your way to Profit".

lol.Bill, come on now. Without scrapers, your big product you’re making wouldn’t exist.Besides, if you’re organizing information in a way it has not been before, what’s the issue? You’re not directly copying anything aside from a 1, possible 2 word phrase. Data structures. But yes, I’m sure I’m going to get killllllled on this one.

@cw: Scraping would be taking direct copies of information. Or even jumbling it. Not arranging it/mining it for data.Like the sweat shop example.Finding words that prefix "owns a sweatshop" is scraping? Really? I shudder at the thought of the duplicate content filters sensitive enough to get set off with the word "nike" appearing more than once.

A creative way to build mashups, but I dobt it’s legal (IANAL).  Shady, what’s that "Slightly" string in your handle all about? ;)

Haha. Thanks!I have my doubts from time to time about the legal angle. Although once again I feel it’d be hard for someone to claim copyright on 1-4 word phrases. Properly stripping out identifying marks (like [single] from amazon) renders it untraceable.I’m not here to make ethical judgements for the readers. It’s knowledge, take it or leave it heh.And the word "slightly" is there because Matt Cutts is squatting shadyseo.com (Really, he is!) and because I prefer to stay to the lighter side of blackhat :-)It’s been a long time since I’ve had my very own angry mob!

Sphinning just to watch the sparks flyHaha! My thoughts precisely... I guess Shady did a great job replying to everyone criticizing my submission, so I won’t do that :)For everyone who is interested in copyright law here is a brilliant post by Sarah: What’s Fair About Fair Use? Defending a Copyright Infringement Claim

My mother warned me about you people. This is like one of those movies where shady sits back smoking a cigar while he directs a posse to bills house to inject him with truth serum making him confess that Shadys questionable tactics trigger him to close the door, turn out the lights and deviously rub his hands together in evil delight..

@yojspew: you probably shouldn’t have said this lol. Judging from the comments above, I will be killed by the community for encouraging people to do that ;)

I can even picture myself doing that, been there, done that, but what’s your point?

My point is: ’read the piece and see if it can be useful for you’... To me that’s a great read as for educational purposes.

Just goes to show you that the dark festering underbelly of the alternate internet economy is spilling over into Sphinn.Toss your moral compass in the trash because the gravitational pull of money for nothing, including stealing from others, is too strong for the weak minded to resist.

I don’t think these tactics should be promoted here.
