I have safe search (found in preferences) set on my computer because when I'm working from home my kids are around.
But I would have thought that the default would be safe search and that you would have to change it to accept porn. Sounds like they have it the other way around?
This has happened to me a couple times at work too. What's also fun is the stumble button bringing up something not entrely NSFW. You think safe settings would be more...safe.
Google has three levels of safe search - Off, Moderate and SuperDuper. It should default to moderate.
I use the preference setting to show moderate..and I am well known in SU as being an image sender to compliment SU mail, blog posts, etc..So I'm in and out of Google image search all day long..What I have found is some sick sick junk under bizarre keywords..certainly not "moderate" by any means! Google needs to be spanked!
I absolutely agree - there used to be an awful image* that came up if you Googled "mittens". I emailed the Google team about it repeatedly. It was up for months before it was removed.
*I won't say exactly what it was, but it had nothing to do with mittens :)
I have no idea why people would go out of there way to rename an image that is offensive so it shows in moderate search.
The search results sometimes are not kid friendly.
Bro thanks for posting this.
I noticed it about a month ago and was absolutely fricken disgusted. I have a daughter amd there is enough crap out there already.
What the hell happened to Google's "do no evil"?
Something needs to be done about this right now.
CHECK YOUR VAINITY SEARCH MATT CUTTS!
Hunh. I had occasion to search for the term "nuns" last night (was in a conversation where we were trying to figure out the various types of orders) I normally have moderately safe search on - wasn't even LOOKING for images, but thanks to universal search placing images in my search results - well, let's just say I found what I wasn't looking for.
Go ahead - try it.
