Listen up, folks: there is a reason your clients hired you for this job – it’s because they aren’t experts or don’t have time to become one. So when you report to them weekly, monthly, or both, keep that in mind. To be blunt, you need to dumb it down.

I wouldn't call it "dumb down" but "tell it like it is".

The way to report to a client is similar as how I expect to be informed by another expert: I don't want my car mechanic, plumber or doctor to talk gibberish either :)

I like "dumb down", it ,means explaining things in the easiest posible terms, which is the advice given in the article. "tell it like it is" is like telling the client to face the truth.
