Thanks for the sphinn-love, Jeffrey!
Sure thing Ann, anytime...great post!
Damn Ann, I just wanted to introduce this technique next week!
@onreact hehe; you should and don't forget to let me know how you are doing with it.
I guess it means not only focusing on your niche but edging out a little around it. It's a good thought to explore. Thanks, Ann.
@bwelford: ypu are perfectly right; on the second thought the way how I started the post (and hence the Sphinn description) might be a bit misleading. The post is about blogging outside the niche (rather than niche blogging).
Well written, Annie.
I couldn't agree more with your concepts about engaging in industries outside SEO. Contacts made in this fashion seem to be more valuable from a business perspective because it is my belief they bring in more business. If you are the only SEO they know and you have an interest in their business you are the first person they will go to for services as well as the first person they recommend their friends and associates too. Good article!
Really good insight. I'm personally convinced that it is a good strategy for gradual vertical deployment and have started it out a few weeks ago by launching a sister blog to mine about coding (my programmer writes the content, that's his way of contributing to the company's online marketing effort). Traffic started to come right in, and has been growing since then (he writes good stuff too).
I liked your point encouraging people to write both entertaining and industry related articles. This will appeal both to your niche and non-niche friends. I for one try to offer some fun or actionable advice in each of my posts.
Becoming a resource, while dispensing helpful advice related to your expertise, is a great way to gain new readership and clients.
