Write a report?

Pfft. Are you kidding?

I set a site-owners up with a Monday-morning auto-generated PDF email with the most salient facts and figures, and then discuss those as and when.

That sounds like a great setup - anyone care to share some how-to details? I have to confess my clients don't get enough reports from me, because I don't have this kind of thing arranged (I'm a web dev tho, not an SEO)

Google Analytics can auto-generate and email some reports.

The auto-generated reports are great, but without some explanation, the message will be lost.  You should either have a training session with management so the fully understand the reports.  (Not just that up is good and down is bad.)  Or, schedule the reports to be sent to yourself.  Then you can review for actionable information and pass on your insights to management.  An automated report every day/week/month will quickly be ignored.
