I agree. I check out Comments more than I check out What's New or Hot Topics. The richest topics will always get comments.
Sometimes the blog post itself doesnt even have comments because of the conversation happening at Sphinn, lol
I agree completly. I enjoy the discussion much more than the articles. Though the articles are needed to inspire the discussion, I find more is learned during the conversation in comments than in the one opinion expressed in an article.
True John. As pointed out in my blog post, I think it is mainly because of the solid audience Sphinn has achived. For instance my blog post probably wont get any comments at all, but this Sphinn thread will.
Funny, I was saying earlier (somewhere aroud here) that its much like a forum for us old board dogs and the articles start the conversation. Though I am not exactly a mega-commenter as finding the time gets rough....
I'd like a 'New Comment Notification' option, that would be handy :0)
I agree, I wish I was notified when comments happen on here with a auto email option. Would help when keeping up on the conversation.
I'm glad to hear your interest in such a feature, as we were discussing it during the last Sphinn meeting. It's already in the feature roll-out schedule, so should be with us in the next month or so. :)
Thx Rob - that was something I wanted to see too.
I'm not convinced comments are even necessary on Sphinn. Sure, it's a social network and we've got a great community here, but I think many of us are just looking for a place with a high signal to noise ratio - minimum time investment that yields maximum rewards. The only things required to make that happen are submitters and readers that vote on submissions.
Comments can help weed out crap or they can make that job even more difficult, depending on who are doing the commenting. Since Sphinn attracts a wide spectrum of marketers, from novice marketers to veterans, what the masses find valuable may not be of value to marketers at the high end of the spectrum. Some people who use Sphinn as a way to socialize post "wow what an rockin' post dude" type comments that are only useful to themselves.
I'm still waiting for Sphinn to offer personalized results. The category links offer a level of filtering but I much rather land on Sphinn's front page and see all the "water cooler" "blogging" type posts weeded out automatically.
