I guess it would depend on how you use this link method, but I'm not so sure I would go so far as to call it white hat. This sounds like something that can really get taken advantage of, and if someone is going to go bother with dropping links in Flickr then why not dump a link in every photo description? At that point its no longer 'good, clean, white hat' because you are exploiting something.

I respect your comment and of course everything can be abused but if you are linking to your site with your own pictures I see nothing wrong with it.
Chris Silver has talked about this on the Images panel at SES. I'll try to dig up something on that. Danny does this with his Flickr pictures. See for instance here:

I always mean to do it, but then always forget to go back and put in the link to my blog post when I use Flickr for blog pictures.
