From the page: "I totally disagree with Aaron at SoloSEO that paid links and paid reviews should be discounted & devalued, because we are not looking at a level playing field. I could agree that irrelevant links should be discounted, in fact that should happen regardless of whether a link is paid for or not."

We’ve got to find the middle ground between everything paid is automatically considered biased and everything free is legit. That kind of black and white thinking has never been valid and still isn’t. Some people will promote anything for a buck; some have integrity that is not for sale at any price. While money and power CAN corrupt it IS possible to have higher priorities. Why do we accept commercialization as long as it is from corporations but feel those who provide awesome content should not monetize which would allow them to spend more time creating more content? I know many brilliant people who will not change their opinions for money. They have superior integrity and can be trusted. I for one believe there is nothing wrong with them monetizing their work until such time as our world rewards each person equally for their contributions to the greater good.

Wonderful words Rose, I often feel that Google is fighting against the lesser of 2 possible evils. Little guys have to do what they can to compete against the big guys who consume internet real estate and link equity. This stated before Google even existed, as I believe the IMDB/Amazon deal went through when Google was still in a garage.
