mmmm ... classy, ahhhh
Showing off your sensitive side...
@Toddmintz Well, you know I like to give back to the community :DThis is not anti-homeless it is pro-SEO
OMG - Im dyin laughing. Its too bad if anyone offended, but if you cant admit its funny then you take things far too seriously...
Funny as!
Funny! Nice pics, too.BTW, Google did a massive PR stunt / good deed by offering the homeless free voice mail:http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23377190I could see you training them in the art of door-to-door link building in commerical office parks.
Do you think its funny disrespecting homeless people? I dont. If you cant help at least do not make it worse.
lol informative and hilarious. People should lighten up :)@onreact - they should try helping themselves, our money isnt going to do it.
Wow, good thing you didnt say you wanted to help seo the fucking blacks or the gays... people who could actually afford to be on the internet and read that might have gotten offended.
Wow... do you have any pictures of disabled people youd like to mock while youre at it? @sonnygill, Im sorry but that comment is about as ignorant as they come. It wasnt all that long ago that people said the same thing about african americans in this country.I really cant believe that this is being sphunn and will probably become hot. After the bitchfest that followed Mvandemars submission yesterday about "airing dirty laundry in public" etc. it certainly seems that standards only apply when certain people want them to.
@mvandemar Part 2 is free SEO for the Amish@Onreact The peice wasnt meant as disrespectful but it has been interesting that people either love it or hate it. I suppose living/working in areas where you get harrassed by someone asking for money 4-9 times when just walking 5 blocks and then cursed at/threatened when you say you dont have any cash has jaded me.
@ wingnut, just because it wasnt MEANT to be disrespectful doesnt mean it isnt. Why not pick african americans, or jewish people, or even women next? I mean surely theres plenty of ways to mock them and tie it back into SEO right? Of course, then youll probably be hitting way too close to home for some people and not as many people would think its funny. Thankfully Ive been fairly blessed my entire life but I know several people who werent so lucky. Sure there are some people out there that are just lazy and need to "help themselves" but there are also people that never stood a chance.Do whats right and pull the post and apologize for your lapse in judgement. Lord knows that if Mvandemar had posted this it would have been desphunn 100 times by now and pulled by Sphinn moderators.
@Skitzzo and @anyone who wants to leave comments degrading my character - Please send me an AIM message - My name on there is NimbusDave - We can talk it out and I can hear all of why you are offended and we can open a dialog about it.Id rather discuss this with you rather than leaving snarky comments back and forth.Thanks.
"Do whats right and pull the post and apologize for your lapse in judgement."Who are you to deem this offensive anyway? Personally I dont see the post as degrading homeless people at all. Far more degrading to be the subject of pity or worse, ignored completely.Remarkably, plenty of people I know or have met who have either lived or still live on the streets are blessed with a sense of humour and are capable of taking jokes in the spirit intended. Theres an important distinction between laughing at people and laughing with them, and Id feel totally comfortable talking to someone who is homeless about the content of the post.In saying people can only talk about homelessness in a sanitised, politically-correct manner you make the topic taboo, which will only ever serve to isolate people.
@Wingnut, correct me if Im wrong but the comment section is precisely for discussing the submission. I dont see why it would need to be taken to IM. Look everyone screws up from time to time and thats fine. I dont know you and I dont know your character but this post certainly does not reflect well on it.@baiduyou, are you saying that if someone dropped the N bomb in a comment that since Im not black I couldnt say that it was offensive? Give me a break! If this post were Giving Free WebDesign Advice to Black People and had a picture of a rapper with gold teeth and said Dont be too Flashy, it will scare away your visitors or some other nonsense like that wouldnt this be viewed in a different light?
At first I thought this blog post was funny, but when you think about the growing number of homeless in the US due to the financial crisis, this topic becomes to serious to kid around with.
Started to write, had telephone, started to write, someone at the door... yadah yadah...I could only post part of this in my desphinn comment so heres the full comment I had wanted to leave there:Im from just a little bit before the time that jokes have to be able to be made at the expense of any group. <div> </div> <div>Reading the short (and funny) post Im really not that offended on the personal level. Then again, thats where indifference more or less begins.</div> <div> </div> <div>I could vote by walking away from the post but then we get the situation Skitzzo describes where it "seems that standards only apply when certain people want them to".</div> <div> </div> <div>So, a desphinn from me just to make my voice heard :)</div> <div> </div> <div>Dave -- I know you dont mean anything bad with the post so to you and anyone out there I; this is a comment on this Sphinn submission - not on Daves character.</div>
@skitzzo Yes, comments are for discussing the submission. Discussing the submission is one thing while insulting the Author is another. "I did/didnt like the article, heres why" compared to "Wingnut youre a biggot and you should die." Id rather the second not spam the comments is all.
@Skitzzo, if someone actually dropped the N bomb or was similarly offensive you might have a point. That hasnt happened.Sorry, but your black web design advice analogy holds no water either because it is not comparing like with like. Yes, it would be viewed in a different light because that would be playing on unrepresentative racial stereotypes rather than depicting a real-world situation. Very few black people are gold-toothed rappers and would probably feel aggrieved at the insinuation; the majority of homeless people rely on some form of charitable donation - very often begging in the street.[EDIT: Dont want to get into tit-for-tat stuff]
@ Wignut, please be clear, I never said that you should die and I edited the word bigot from my comment very quickly because as you point out, i dont know you and dont know your character. That was absolutely a poor word choice and for that I do apologize and edited it almost immediately.
I have no reputation to protect here so Im going to throw in my politically incorrect opinion. I think the outrage on this is kneejerk, a reaction that weve been conditioned for. US media of all kinds make fun of people of all races, nationalities, and abilites. I can find you a radio show, a tv show, a newspaper, a website that makes fun of any group youd like. Obviously, some of these guys in the article know how to laugh at themselves...kung fu? LOLThe bottom line is: there is no group that is immune to ridicule. None. Its simply human nature. If you are human, other humans get to laugh at you. Its part of who and what we are.
@DarkMatter - My reputation is already tarnished...and I agree with you completely. How many times do we make fun of ourselves? Plently.Im sure I could come up with a way to offend everyone and it would still be relevant to marketing and SEO. Like "10 Ways The Nazis Could Have Done Better at Propoganda"@Wingnut - There, I took some heat off you ;)
@ MadHat, right but my point is the same people that just yesterday were lambasting a submission for mocking a situation that affected someone they know personally, are now sphinning this. Either they are both ok, or neither of them should be. Thats really the point Im trying to get at although probably articulating it poorly.
@Skitzzo - I dont know anything about the other post, Im talking about this one. And if you didnt know I dont have any problem mocking people personally either. Including Wingnut the dog lover.
I never saw the submission yesterday but it sounds like it was totally out of order. It seems like there was a malicious intent with that post that I just didnt see with this one.Clearly different people take offence at different things. What irked me was the assertion that a post lots of people thought was fun and inoffensive should be erased from existence as an affront to good taste. Lets agree to disagree.
I never saw the submission yesterdaySo... much like your characterization of homeless people and your numbers on mental health, your opinion is one that is merely pulled out of your ass?
Thats why I said sounds like you dolt.
I did see the post yesterday and it wasnt malicious, I agree with earlier comments that either both are ok or neither are ok, be consistant or this place is going to smack of double standards.
Thanks AV, Ill Paypal you your "friend rental fee" later, as usual. :)No, yesterdays post was not malicious.
This was clearly a humor piece. I think the "kung fu" guy would enjoy it :)
Wow, good thing thanks!
because trying to profit off the backs of those less fortunate than us is pathetic and reprehensible.
I feel that the topic is not comething that should be joked around with.
Im from just a little bit before the time that jokes have to be able to be made at the expense of any group.
Publicly having fun of others for your own gain isnt something to be proud of.
