One question: how do you usually host those sites: at subdomains? at separate domain?

I prefer subdirectories at the main domain

I'd normally go for domain.com/uk /fr etc.. but there's also a strong argument for a country specific tld.

@Annie - It can depend on the country - certainly when you're targeting China a dedicated .cn domain hosted within the Chinese firewall is preferable.
