Glen, the probably youngest looking SEO pro out there shows how to hit the Digg homepage daily. In fact I do it on German Digg-clone YiGG in the same way.
Once you hit the front page on a daily basis you can also add your own stories from time to time (like once a week, not more often).

Thanks for that both VC and OR. Excellent tips for someone new to the Social Media game! Time to start actively participating in the Digg, SU, Reddit etc communities *gulp*.
