I agree with the article when it suggests helping the client by coming up with categories and proposed topics. But blogs are not right for everyone.I long ago stopped doing any blog coaching, so it makes no difference to my bottom line whether anyone starts a blog or not. However, I give general non-paid advice to small businesses and they tend to speak pretty openly to me. What Ive come to realize is that some people simply are not comfortable putting themselves out on the Web -- theyre too private. And some resent the entire idea that they should be taking precious time from running their businesses to write a blog. Nothing you do will change them. Best to let them come around to WANTING to do a blog, instead of urging them.
The psychology of the sale is always a tricky one. Your thoughts are right on and unless the realities can be conveyed properly to the client they will do what is comfortable, which is nothing, or they may give in and install a blog only to leave it alone and unattended too and therefore worthless. Look forward to the rest of the series.
Nice work, Jennifer!
