If Google works this deal, they will likely end up with a lot more usage data - and a strong starting point to triangulate other usage data against. With links becoming a commodity, how hard would it be for Google to find a better signal? In 5 years will they still rely on links and have 10,000 people rating content?

Each item on Aaron’s list is worthy of a few DAYS of SEO analysis. Do that work, and then climb a mountain, sit down, peer out over the vista and I guarantee a set of totally exciting SEO strategies will pop into your brain, good for years going forward. Come down and write a busines plan.. or two.Good thing only a few dozen people in the world have the smarts, time, and the will to actually do that. Oh, and let’s not forget that as Google makes more judgements (specific evidence-based scoring as opposed to weighting inputs to an "algorithm"), Google gets closer to being an arbiter of commerce... earning the responsibilities associated with that... in a metrics-driven market where it has near-monopoly control... all of which is spelled L-I-A-B-I-L-I-T-Y.And therefore, at each step of the progression from Search Engine to Borg, Google must hesitate, hiccup, purposefully make mistakes ("oops..sorry!") and learn to be a better politician. Consider that the first critique of the business strategy generated at the top of the mountain..edit to integrated, and move on!
