I am amazed that stuff isn't filtered out somewhere in their system.
Wow. This is really interesting actually. Properly applied, it could be used to get some decent attention to your search result, even if it's not #1. I wonder if it works on adwords...
I first thought this was pretty amazing - but I cant replicate the results - me thinks this is an April fools post...

Placing special characters in the description (and title) tag is nothing new.
I've experimented with it some time ago. I couldn't get Google to show a special character at the beginning of the description tag, because it was completely ignored, but everywhere else they worked nice.
I think it's better to use this as formatting (e.g. breaking up the text, arranging it a little bit), not as getting the "look-at-me-how-ugly-I-am" kind of attention.
