Now they are receiving thousands of backlinks from all over the world. This could be a huge form of linkbait that will make PerezHilton.com the number one source of information to get the news of Fidel Castro’s death.

Huh? Even the BBC and CNN has no mention of that, but that's the point right?
They are crazy to announce stuff way before it has happened, just so they can rank for it by the time it happens.
Yes but that is the point of link bait and Perez Hilton won't care if people don't think he's a real source for world news, he's already a source for entertainment news with FLAIR.
This was a genius move by Perez Hilton. They even forced Castro people and the BBC to come out and clear out the confusion.
Apparently Perez Hilton "believometer" is quite high. Awesome.
@ q1smd, I don't think this is about predictive SEO. They could have had those same keywords without claiming that he died :)

I live in Miami, and the whole town has been a buzz for the last few days regarding this, every radio show, TV station, aired something yesterday about the rumor. Being that he was the first to post it. It was a fantastic word of mouth / Buzz campaign by some one , culminating in Perez's posting... Genius...
He gets millions of uniques a day anyway, I doubt he even cares
P.S. It costs $40k to advertise (fully) on the site for one day...he's raking it in anyway
Yeah he is raking it in.. probably right about him not caring for ranking or backlinks,I was referring to the W.O.M campaign,that sparked that posting.
why sphinn this crap blog post? its point seems to be "news gets backlinks" and then you realize (thanks for the update!) that this knob actually thought perezhilton was right?? im starting to see why it took so long to get a digg-style site going in the SEO niche..
