It isn’t the dance, but it is very interesting that the index across these two Google datacenters are different from the regular index.

In fact, with a quick query for bank, aside from subtle SERP changes, the number of pages indexed differed - 532m - 445m & 500m respectively.

Early April Fool’s? We will see...

This *may* explain a discrepancy I noticed this morning. After downloading SEObook’s new rank checking tool and taking it for a spin (which, by the way, has a very user friendly and simple UI) I noticed that the results for MSN Live and Yahoo were the same as a report I ran through Web Position 4, but the Google rank in the new SEObook tool was consistently 5 positions lower. Maybe they were getting data from different data centers? May just be a coincidence. I haven’t really looked into it yet. Thanks for the heads up on the potential Google dance.Jim

Google has hundreds of thousands of search boxes spread over some 40-odd Class C IP blocks.<div></div><div><div>There are always discrepencies across some of these blocks.  One or two are often used for limited testing of new ideas, and often those are not in rotation for normal users  of google.com to see.</div><div></div><div></div><div>Additionally, you can get different results depending on whether you use the IP address, the corresponding GFE name, or the eh-in-f99.google.com type notation.</div></div>

Yeah and what I love the most is that they have server twins - so that if one falls over, the identical one is pinged and searched instantly so the searcher never notices any lag. In fact, the servers fall over WAY more often than anyone realizes because they use crap hardware (by their own admission) due to economies of scale.

What’s interesting (been noticing this for a while) is how our new(ish) sites are showing up at the top of the SERPs on those two data centers Danny referenced, but are actually in the "page 3-5" range on the "real" SERPs. What additional filtering takes place later, that isn’t showing up on these DCs?

Would love to comment by comparison to existing Google.com searches, but we’re still blocked from accessing it here in the UK:http://www.internetbusiness.co.uk/02042008/googlecom-still-blocked-from-the-uk/

I don’t know about anyone else, but I really miss the real Google Dance. It added a certain level of satisfaction to this whole SEO stuff. Let’s face it, SEO isn’t as fun as it used to be.

the update of april makes the challenge even easyer for both of us.to get a big amount of backlinks is still important, but now you will have to find relevant links from the country you wish to rank only. it seems to be a split between countries.
