I presume this is a paid info-mercial. I don't see how the chaos of any human organization can possibly put in the legwork (bytework) necessary to cover all relevant sources. As Rand says, his examples are fatuous.
I hadn't read Rand's write-up against Scoble before I wrote my own here: http://sphinn.com/story/3890. What got me was how similar the two were in the end -- and I'm sure plenty of other SEOs were thinking the same.
Yeah, but you and I are essentially connected at the brain, Danny :)
Seriously, I read nothing that anyone else wrote before starting mine, so I was amazing (or perhaps not) that we had some of the same reactions from the mischaracterization of SEO down to the bad search example on HDTV that he used.
I got to Scoble's page after clicking a link in my referrer pointing to Mahalo Press coverage. I read and I have to say, I didn't watch the video. I'm surprised anyone bothered to watch it. After all, I don't click because simply because I believe someone hasn't been paid. I actually have to be curious enough to click. My thought was: "I bet this is going to be one vapid video. Better get back to work!"
For someone who doesn't need SEO, ole Calcanis certainly is hard at work with all manners of linkbait, blog comment spam and here it seems pay-per-post. His site has dynamic keyword metas (check the homepage metas), optimized title tags, and I can see they verified using the META tag method to get indexing and search data from Yahoo! Site Explorer and Google Webmaster Tools. So, what exactly about all that is NOT SEO?
I guess I have a hard time dismissing someone's opinion just because of one issue. I mean I have disagreed with most everyone in the SEO world at one time or another (except for Donna of course) but that doesn't mean I lose respect for their opinion.
@TheRealTerry
Calcanis is hypocrisy at it's finest.
Scobles another mouth that likes to ramble at times...
Believe none of what you read, and half what you hear.
