Excellent post! To me Google is just getting to much power and doing what ever they "feel" is right. Not exactly the do no evil they claim to practice in my opinion.
Huh? Google can do what ever they want. They can makr whatever websites as SPAM as they want. Sure I may not agree with it or you, but that is the way it works.
Aaron -- youve truly built a brand for yourself! As soon as I saw the title, I knew 100% that you were the author, glancing down to the author name only confirmed it :)
True, a value adding process is always the crictical reason for a website (or business) to exist. Starting a membership site this year is just like starting a blog in 2003 or buying great domains in 2002...Its easier to be said than done. But youve done it and you are doing it well. Changing is pain and adapting to new things is always a painful experience in the beginning (but turn comfortable eventually). Impressed to see that you can live on your success and yet, moved forward from your comfort zone and achieve greater success.
Another money quote:Selling information will keep getting harder unless you have a unique data source, a unique information format or offer interactivity.Emphasis on "a unique", but you can also probably substitute "the perception of a unique".
Even today you can see that those lyric-websites who offer music news, videos, community features, etc. are way more successful than those who offer only the lyrics. So adding value is not just something to consider for the future. It already pays off.
