A few ... sigh ... actually six but that's not linkbait. You read the seventh tip here first: escape from free hosted blogging hell before you've gained too many inbound links. Regardless where you free-host your stuff, flee now. If you don't own the domain, you don't own your content.

I have to do this, probably this week or next, and I'm not exactly looking forward to it.

Great article Sebastian - as always. I'm also looking into moving my blog, but dreading it as well.

However, I don't agree completely with the statement "If you don't own the domain, you don't own your content."

Well, in the very least you sure don't have control of it, that much is for sure, at any time they can seize, freeze, or block you from accessing it.

When I can't move my stuff around as I like then somebody fucks me. Probably a law suit could gain me proper post-to-post 301 redirects from my content at blogspot.com to my content at sebastians-pamphlets.com, but being a Web anarchist I believe that I shouldn't bother courts with technical stuff they'll never understand. I'd rather state that free hosting blog platforms in general steal content and that Blogger software is flawed. ;) Actually, there's no need for a law suit coz I was able to manage the move w/o support from Blogger, but the warning is warrantable.
