Very true, Kim. You sensitive types really arent cut out for certain forms of Internet communication. You really have to have a thick skin in the age of Twitter and FB.Ive been shocked at how much time some people spend at Twitter. I generally check it out at night and maybe first thing in the morning. If Im traveling I might look at it more often. The past few days Ive been traveling and couldnt believe how many tweets some people had during working hours!I suppose its no different than posting on forums and stuff, but even those things I cant do anymore (as much) on a normal work day when Im in the office.
Yep. Thick skin and detachment. That post has been building up for awhile. Human behavior fascinates me. Social networking is strange. Impersonal. How can it be that I know so many more people than I ever imagined Id ever know and still feel so isolated and cut off from them?
Its the nature of stuff being in writing without any inflections or body language. Ive gotten into arguments via IM before and literally have to call the person (or go in person) to explain what I really meant!
I was talking to a friend this morning about how women today (and some men) are more open about posting for pictures of themselves in various modes of undress on the ‘Net. In MySpace, more profiles of women expose their breasts or more, for example. Walking the streets of any town, younger people show far more skin and body parts than ever. It just occurred to me that maybe the Internet-TV-ipod generation is so craved for human touch that in order to attract some kind of human validation of their existence, they’ve learned to resort to sex and nudity to arouse a response when outside among the physical world, because this is what they see online/TV/ipod. Anyone care to explore this topic?(reposted comment from my blog)
It is a fact that for many, it is a big deal. We dont have to sensitive in social networking.
