SEO Standards(to me) seem completely insane. There's too many variations on too many tactics. People aren't going to expose their tricks for a "risk assessment". And beyond that Google's tolerance for different tactics in different niches is completely different. Maybe since we're all SEOs here, we can behave like it and OUTRANK these crap SEOs that standards are supposed to protect against, rather than releasing these arbitrary guidelines?

Web standards yes, you can clearly define the benefits of using them (faster page load times, separating content and design).
SEO standards no, its a totally different industry - something that is constantly changing, and where the crafty and 'in the know' succeed.
In SEO if you don't put your time in, and stay abreast - you fall behind. Standards can't work within that system..
