When you’re done with that long, thoughtful post, it’s easy to just publish it and be done with the work. But if you skip the slug and let the blogging software create it with the default, you’re almost always compromising the possible ranking and anchortext link quality for the future.

Andy did a nice job of writing this up, in case you aren’t already familiar with this process.

I definitely didn’t know about the 301 plugin yet, a big help for those of us who want to go back and repent on our previous lame slugs.
