In what appears to be a very carefully considered, strategically phrased statement this afternoon, Yahoo said it will actually test carrying Google’s ads on its own pages, calling the test a "strategic alternative." Microsoft isn’t happy and quickly responded.

I think Google is trying to get more control over the paid search market.

As opposed to trying to sell LESS advertising?? That’s like saying you think 7-11 is trying to get more control over the cherry flavored slushy market. :D Of course they are, it’s their job.Obviously Yahoo is trying to do a better job of monetizing their search results, and this will let them gather some useful data that will help them improve their offering... while desperately trying to fight off Microsoft.

I don’t think Google will get their hands permanently on Yahoo!’s search results that easily. Is Yahoo! simply choosing the lesser evil to partner with, until they have a plan to escape the danger zone? Isn’t this a temporary arrangenent to fend off MSFT to buy extended planning time? Microsoft seem to have their sights on convincing the Yahoo! shareholders of their commitment to landing the takeover successfully, whatever it takes.
