If you're a small business–or one that operates only in a particular geographic region–you might be forgiven for seeing "online reputation management" and think it doesn't apply to you. You're not a big brand, you don't have to worry about the Wall Street Journal or Newsweek writing about your business, so why worry? Here are some great examples...

A little birdy told me I might know that 'Guest Services Manager'. Take note of how they are responding to these because the guy knows what he's doing.

And remember also that if you are a product-oriented business (i.e. eCommerce) Google is now making this even more important by incliuding customer reviews from sites like epinions in the shopping search results.

I'd trust Dave on just the reputation management ideas alone that he's given me over the last year. Not only does he know what he's talking about but backs it up with proof.

This is excellent, crystal clear advice from Andy Beal... an enjoyable and useful little article.

The ironic thing was that I wasn’t trying to impress Andy Beal… His wife Shiela who has a Hawaii travel blog.

She is the one who did the fact checking one of our special offers on Trip Advisor to see if it was a good hotel or not and noticed how the general manager personally responds to the reviews.  BTW - It's a great deal. ;^)

This is exactly how i advise our hotel & resort clients to mange their tripadivsor reviews.  I'm impressed that this property and manager "get it" as it seems to be a bit of an uphill struggle with my clients - their time is stretched so thin they seem to put anything 'online' on the back burner.

I'm going to use this example over and over again to show them  how smart it is to take into account what people are saying and reading on TA.

Great post!

Carrie
