Is it just me, or is the word authentic being used loosely in his definition? the real deifnition of authenticity comes from fact, not appeal.
I agree, SpostareDuro. Authenticity cant be in the form of a fib!
"Authentic" means that theres enough fact to make customers happy over the long term. So, even if the find out PART of the message is a fib, theyre still happy. Its from Seth Godins All Marketers are Liars.I would argue that authenticity stems from sincerity and belief as much as fact. Its subjective. If you dont believe Tylenol will help your headache, nothing will convince you of the truth. If you do believe playing classical music for your baby will make them smarter, nothing will convince you otherwise. Tylenol and classical music have strong proponents who believe each is authentic. And detractors who dont.A lie, on the other hand, flies in the face of all intelligence. It may do so up front (like if I said I had a full head of hair) or later, after you purchase (if I sold you a miracle cure for baldness). In either case, its going to make you like me less.I hope this makes sense. This is a concept Ive spent a long time chewing over, and I aint done yet.
hmmm.
Just expanded a bit on my original comment.Im not suggesting that lying is good marketing. Want to make sure that thats clear, if nothing else.
