Comments
technically this article is already hot - its got like three submissions...
nice :) the submission moves forward as well its duplicate :)
I fixed the URL on this submit and removed the others. We prefer to keep the original submission whenever possible.
Thanks Matt. Lost some nice comments though. Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Great read John, and so true.
I'll have to re-comment here.
John didn't mention that Real SEOs eat hamburgers.
I'll test that drinking theroy while at SMX social. Wonder what kinds of girly drinks Danny prefers.
16. Real SEO's... Are in the BOOO Crew ( or atleast want to join it)

1. Real SEOs … Don’t wear hats in public
Crap. I'm gonna have to change my avatar...and logo...and numerous picture of myself...and my chosen style. Well, that's SEO for ya; always changing.

Speaking of which; have you seen Tad here lately? :P
1) I wear my hat however I darn well please online. In real life I look like crap with a hat.
2) I love PPC. SEO will always be my first and true love, but it's sooo nice to be able to say "Screw backlinks"
3) I'm under 21, so I'm gonna (legally) have to say "no go" on the drinking at conferences.
4) Check.
5) Believe it or not, the SEs don't keep blackhats like myself on the "schwag" list. No t-shirts here. I got a (ironically white) hat from WordZe though. But I guess I can't wear it in public.
6) I like forums. They're the most active internet users out there, so if you want to get the word out about something, that's a great place to be. I pick and choose granted, but they're still good.
7) Check.
8) Never had the pleasure of seeing danny drunk. Maybe when I can get into bars(next march=21)
9) Check.
10) Check.
11) Check.
12) Never had the pleasure of adding Tamar to a friends list actually! After I finish cleaning, perhaps I shall Twitter follow her.
13) Sort of Check.
14) Check.
15) Check.
50% = Me = Epic Failure? damn.
Now that's scary...SSS is 1-year younger than my oldest daughter...
I violently agree with almost all of those. Except PPC, which requires slightly different skills and can be more instantly gratifying, and Rankings, because you didn't put in a caveat about caring more about better metrics, like natural-search-related conversions.
"Real SEOS" know that great linkbait makes those reading it feel good about themselves by telling them they they are 'elite' in some way because they fit a certain profile.
Bravo! If I still blogged about SEO I'd give that a link for sure. Hell, maybe I will anyway.
Great post, but I agree with bbcarter that ppc requires different skills. I think it's like direct marketing, in that it allows you to test different campaigns and get immediate feedback. And use this information to augment you natural SEO.
