Tim, I believe Matt made this point 1+ years ago on his blog (though I’m not up to chasing down the reference).

Sort of though the article was referencing a reference to any change of ownership, apparently a second blogger at the event clarified that the reference was to expired domains which as you say Matt has spoken about previously. However the post is morphing into my new crusade to find people who can genuinely say they have had their inbound links removed from a domain ownership change even a newly expired one.

I don’t recall the context at Domain Roundtable being expired domains, although I cerrtainly don’t hear everything without normal human bias. The session was taped, so those who care should get the DVD from DomainTools.com.I definitely included it in the session notes because I heard it as applying to domains that changed whois ownership (Matt made a reference to people moving domains from "shell company to shell company" as not a good way to try andmake it look like a domain had been sold, and.. as I recall.. segued into the comments about link resetting)
