"Some bloggers use social media to boost traffic and draw links, but they write off the opportunity to gain subscribers through social media as being unrealistic. While it’s true that social media users are typically less likely to subscribe than the average blog visitor, it’s certainly not impossible and in fact can make a big difference to your overall subscriber count."

Of course it's possible. Conversion may be low, but that doesn't make it redundant. I'm finding the more I use social media, the more traction I get. As visibility increases so too do results. And as pointed out in the post, ongoing activity leads to return visits from social media consumers (improving the likelihood of subscription).

I can't fathom anyone using social media without the goal of subscriber growth.

Subscribers, of course!

Parts of the web are so impersonal, and yet, people go online to connect in ways they haven't been able to otherwise. We build trust with those that do subscribe. As James is saying, the value is in the long term.

It is possible to have many subscribers as long as you do all the things to network, communicate and promote through social media.

I agree with the first comment, the deeper I delve into Social Media the better the results.  Social media is about relationships and conversations, which do take time to build upon.

Great post!
