Our tech consensus on this is that if we can get the Flash to act like it has real pages and use the back button, that's good- and even better if we can use Flash in multiple HTML pages, a hybrid sort- the whole 'accessible' text alternative, if only in one HTML page, is still only one page to optimize.  But agreed, we prefer to SEO HTML-based sites.

One of the main advantages of having flash is to make the website more interactive, AFAIT. And the second point you mentioned is important while you consider SEO and competing in a popular niche.

The compiled points in this post may help you to convey better that point to your clients. They won't really agree when you simply say No to Flash. Most of the time they launch the website and later approach an SEO for optimizing. That should not happen first of all...

Great post kichus, hard to believe some folks still don't get it!  If you wouldn't make an all .gif or .jpg site why make an .swf site?  Check out a Flash site on your iPhone and see what happens...  It's so easy to make html pages that include Flash elements!

In my view it's the wrong way to use this fantastic technology.
