Ten years already! I remember starting my first in-house SEO job in 1999 and being given two websites to visit: Search Engine Watch and SearchEngineForums. I was told by my supervisor to go learn everything I could about search engine optimization. SEF really helped me in the early days of my career.
Glad to hear it. There's been a proliferation of forums since then, but SEF is still around.
It was late 1998 and few people even knew anything about SEO. Inktomi and Altavista ruled the Search Engine industry and Google was not into English vocabulary - yet.
The company I worked for was busy churning out image rich websites. The company was in knots to figure out why some sites were ranking much higher than the ones they created. We searched everywhere and finally landed in SEF. Jim's pages taught me the basic concept of SEO.
