Hey Lid, thanks, but this here will fail too as you submitted my homepage ;-)
hmmm... good thing you're on another continent. It is such a good post; i'm sorry I mucked it for you. Let's hope the Sphinn team take pity on a dopey woman :)
For anyone wanting to see the post later try: http://seo2.0.onreact.com/top-10-reasons-why-great-content-fails-on-social-media
Lid, very good article. I have gone through. But accept the fact that great content sometime fails get the proper attention.
The URL has been changed as requested.
Rob - thank you!
OK, so now I can vote for it :-)
Trying to help you beat the weekend effect. :)
This is a really great article, Tad. You've got all the important points mentioned. Normally I like to add something to the conversation. In this case, you've got it all. I think timing coupled with giving an initial boost are the most important, but they're all good.
Good post, but I think the comments relating to the submitter are a little unfair (albeit accurate). Yes... submission by a newbie will mean the article receives less exposure. But thats the nature of social media. We can't control who finds and submits our work (most of the time). Using language such as 'nobody' to describe newbies is a little unfair. They're simply trying to help build their own brand. And to say bloggers 'hate' it when this happens is also controversial in my mind...
I agree fully with the time zone point. I live in South Africa and so get to work when most in the US go to sleep, I often get to read and sphinn great articles, but because I do it in the morning this side while most of the US is asleep they dont get that much attention, although they are awesome articles.
It fails becuase you dont have enough Sphinn and Stumble friends, lol
I think you've nailed it on the head incrediblehelp... :)
yup incredible, i think you resumed it in a sentence.
you just cannot be a 'casual' poster on bookmarking sites (including Sphinn) if you want to do well on them. I'm not entirely blaming social media marketers, but it seems that most of the people that do well on these sites are also the top posters. this means that like display advertising, power is to the one that does most, not the one that does the best.
For example, I believe PPC posts add the most value, and put the most knowledge out there (not for you, but for your client; that's the aim isn't it?) because they relate to your client's media spend as opposed to how you spend your client hours doing SEO or SEM. However, since PPCers don't spend their entire day submitting posts and building relationships, they don't usually reach front page.... and that's why we need a SMM to sphinn/digg/stumble them.
