Truth is, these days, Facebook has been my best biz dev tool...
Hi Eli - Facebook has been a great tool for many - unfortunately my short attention span is very poorly suited to facebook or myspace. Twitter on the other hand is perfect. 140 characters...in...out....and on my way :)
If you knew Carrie you would know how true that is... I tried to get her to use Facebook. Yeah that didnt work so well. She is a twitmonster though.
I find some interesting links and information from my Twitter friends, including Carrie.
maybe I just dont "get" social media, but the idea that small, brick and mortar businesses can benefit from Twitter seems silly. If I want to build reputation as a blogger or an internet marketer, Twitter makes great sense. If I want to sell ordinary everyday things regular people need/want (like the majority of businesses)...I just dont see Twitter making an impact. I know people are seeing some great results in networking with Twitter, I just dont think these tools translate very well to offline businesses that arent internet/tech related. I dont know one single person outside the search industry who uses Twitter, or even knows it exists.
I agree with the theory behind the article but just think that for most small business owners (or what I would think of as small businesses) the time investment in these particular sites is going to be very unlikely to pay off.Im totally in agreement with DarkMatter on this and think a small reality check could be in order.
Well I certainly can see where youre coming from. Its a time investment and wont work for everyone. I do think its possible though with some effort. Here are a few examples of twitter profiles for small to medium enterprises that look to be getting the word out via twitter:http://twitter.com/MajesticHotelshttp://twitter.com/ninemilehttp://twitter.com/CHEFTONYI think being in a popular and populated destination would probably help. I didnt mean to imply it was for every brick and mortar business - but it certainly can work for some if the time is invested wisely. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate the time you took to comment.Carrie
Im also totally in agreement with DarkMatter, Id go as far as saying 99% of the UK have no idea what Twitter is.
