Great article by Dave Wallace as usual! Thanks planetc1 for making us all aware of it.
Well, so far nobody's asked me my definition of SEO. Guess I'm not important enough. :)
But here goes: in my world, SEO is the stuff you do to make it easier for the search engines to accurately index your content so your potential customers can more easily find you through the search engines' natural (unpaid) search results. The funny thing is, though, most of the stuff you do to make it easier for the search engines are also things that make it easier for your human visitors.
Which isn't really such a surprise, given that what the search engines most want to rank highly are pages human searchers find most valuable and useful for any given search query.
Given that, I fail to see how SEO can possibly "die" unless you think the general concept of website usability is also going to "die". Site optimization is (or at least should be) a foundational part of building a good, usable, useful website.
My two cents, less taxes, adjusted for inflation.
I admire Shoemoney and his success online..but I have to diagree on him with this one..I believe that SEO has a great future in store..only if you know how to use it well..^^
Excellent article that breaks down the problems with these earlier misguided articles. I especially like your definition of SEO as being the foundation. It's not just rankings and link building. SEO is about connecting with a market. Demonstrating the benefits of a service or product. I hope your article gets as much attention as the earlier articles which simply throw out controversial statements.
SEO will never die, it may change size and shape though...
