We must always look to the future of a startup in order to evaluate them. SecondBrain got behind because of a technical issue, but has maintained the same vision throughout. These other services (and there are many examples in other venues) are geared to cling to super popular niceities like Twitter and Facebook. A real application should do more than “holler” at other people in the end. Twitter is not something to emulate, but rather something to use. This is where FriendFeed and Profilactic missed the boat. When people grow weary of the Lifestream, there will be nothing beneath it.

It's early days with Second Brain but it looks very user-friendly and seems to get the job done.
I tested Second Brain earlier this year, Profilactic was the first service of the 3 I used. I was more often on FriendFeed in the recent months though. I think all 3 are very beta as of now and I'm not sure which will take the lead, probably FF as it has all the prominent bloggers on their side. All 3 have some annoyances, technical as well as usability issues. FF does not recognize my Mixx account (I told them but they never replied) while Profilactic did not support StumbleUpon last time I tried as SU "has no RSS feeds". Of course it has. SC has also some issues but at least the makers are very responsive.
I'm http://onreact.secondbrain.com/ on SC
http://friendfeed.com/onreact on FF and
http://www.profilactic.com/profile/onreact.com on PL.
Btw. my favorite lifestreaming app is BlogCatalog ;-) although it can't access my LinkedIn profile: http://www.blogcatalog.com/user/onreact
