When this happens, the only thing that will keep you going is your passion for the topic. If you are truly interested in the subject, you won’t give up easily. You won’t stop. You’ll make time to write. It won’t be a chore. You’ll enjoy it. This high level of enthusiasm overcomes the inevitable inertia you’ll sometimes face as an individual web publisher.

He's overlooking the dangers of having all your eggs in one basket. Google's slap comes to mind mulling this over. I've been his recommended route once with my Ubuntu site until my PR6 got snatched. Talk about an eye opener. Since then I've been about diversification.

Pursuing sites that interest you the most doesn't mean you can't diversify, unless you only have one interest in your life. And seriously...what has PR got to do with influence or profit?

Unless your site is not getting any search traffic at all (cuz of the 'PR slap'), its irrelevant. PR doesn't negate the fact that passion drives and motivates web publishers to excel or strive towards profit or influence.

Perhaps you misread my article.

Putting the whole "good strategy, bad strategy" thing aside.  I think you're absolutely right DoshDosh.  From a psychological stand point, it makes the most sense to pursue something that you are deeply passionate about.  All this nonsense about attention deficit disorder can be fixed without pills.  Passion is the Adderall of my ADD.  When I'm writing about what I love...I am FOCUSED!!! lol!

That's pretty much how I started, I was leading myself to believe that I could make money even I wan't really into the topic. A lot goes into developing a website and making it profitable, but one thing will never change and that is content. If it's not good nothing else matters.
