Baby Girl Born on Twitter!
Internet marketing strategy guy and family man extraordinaire (who also really likes beer), Adam Audette, posted to twitter about 15 hours ago with a tweet that read... We're having our baby today. Heading to the hospital at 12 noon to induce. I'll post with updates along the way!

I (and many others) followed his tweets throughout the day and I thought it would be great to share them all in one place. See comments for the remainder of this beautiful story.

Congratulations to Adam and Sally Audette on the birth of their baby girl!

The following are tweets I have from Adam up until now...

We're having our baby today. Heading to the hospital at 12 noon to induce. I'll post with updates along the way!

@martinbowling @rustyfelty @wingnut @mattmcgee and everyone else, thanks for the support!

@chiropractic @toddmintz @derrickwheeler thx guys. i'm nervous, it's the 2nd one but still scary. can't imagine how it must be for Sally

@gspowart think so! haven't heard of anyone live twittering a birth yet. i'll post pics to twitterpic (don't worry, nothing graphic!)

It's on! Heading to the hospital w/ an extra car seat in the back. I'll update when we're checked in.

yessir @leeodden , our 2nd. Psyched!!

Sally is 6 centimeters dilated. Hooked to pitocin and ramping up

thanks to everyone for the support. @martinbowling Allison, Violet, Sophia are choices.

Sally getting shivers now, just washed her feet and gave her a back rub. Little things like that are all I can do!

Her contractions have seemed to stop now, it's still early though. They just bumped up the pitocin.

Calling family, our room # is 154 at St Charles in Bend

We like Allison Audette, but don't have a middle name. Anyone?

we're in the holding pattern... Her contractions are getting bigger, but she's still not feeling them.

thanks @toddmintz - good ideas. She can be a ''triple A''

Sally is taking a nap. Calm before the storm.

Up from nap, contractions stronger and Sally feeling them. Not too painful yet.

Contractions very close together

Our PA is cute! Her name's Pria

@jillwhalen awesome!!

Just got a new nurse on shift, she's asking for espresso to get wired. Told her I've had 6 shots today.

Okay, we're getting there. Baby's head is right behind bag of water, Dr felt it. Sally is 8 cm now

Sally's having moderate contractions but they're not painful yet. Her belly is very tight

Everyone is amazed that Sally isn't in more pain, the contractions are getting big.

Dr Murphy may want to break her water.

We have a baby!!!!!

Follow him here... @audette

Of course my first thought about this was how you could turn Twitter into an entertainment medium.  Adam used it to tell us about his kid's birth.  Orson Welles may have used it to broadcast the invasion of Earth by aliens.  How do we know what you're twittering is real or just entertainment?

@kevinheisler They can both go hot. Doing good so far.

May not be the first birth followed on twitter (1st I was aware of) but it's the first for a member of Sphinn... AdamAudette

Congrats on the baby :)
 And no, it was not the first one on twitter, not even for a member of Sphinn, because I twitted the birth of my son last Wednesday, beating him by two days :) My twittering was not as thorough though as it was a fast waterbirth and I was in the water with my wife, unable to twit from there.

@hjortur HaHa, that's great. Congrats on the big and healthy boy. Perhaps there is a market for a water resistant twittering device. :)

congrats...

on a different note, if i even thought of putting my hands on some kind of computer/communication device while my wife was in labor, I would have no hands left...

That was pretty cool Adam - while I was in the woods with 50 crazed 8 year olds I got to read the updates on the birth of your #2. Congrats!

Shouldn't a husband be holding his wife's hand rather than using them to Tweet... :) She is a very understanding and progressive woman! Congrats.

Thanks to all for the awesome support!! I was sweating a few moments during delivery, trying to update twitter while everything happened. I have huge admiration for what women are able to do, it's awe inspiring (and a little scary). Moms are bad ass, no two ways about it. Sally is pretty amazing too for understanding while her geek husband did this.
@chiropractic thx for sphinning!

@hjortur nice work, congrats!
@JamesDuthie yup, she is.

I have a vague memory of Robert Scoble updating the birth of his child online, and I think he used Twitter.

I became a dad 3 weeks ago, and was Twittering up until we went to the hospital. But a long labour, and rules about mobiles meant that I ended up focussing on helping my partner to painkillers rather than Twittering...

But there's been plenty of updates on baby Oscar @badgergravling and on Flickr!
