In my opinion load time is one of the most overlooked aspects of web design in that it’s always an after-thought rather than being central to the development process.The article mentions that "16% of people leave the page if it loads longer than 10 seconds and only every second person will wait more than 15 seconds" and that doesn’t even take into account the percentage of people who will wait for the first page to load and then think twice before browsing the rest of your site. If you’re selling CPM ads one of the quickest ways to increase the number of page views and therefore income is simply to reduce page load time.

I witnessed this with a friend’s client site which was actually a blog. Slow server = slow load time = huge decrease in visits + substantial rankings decrease. It was ugly but taught us all a valuable lesson.
