A great post about the bogus phrase "Search Engine Placement" and how false phrases like that damage the overall image of a professional SEO consultant.

I don’t much care for fancy terminology that is possibly put out there to confuse potential clients. While any SEOer will understand the terminology, sometimes it takes a little bit of dumbing it down to be in line with where your potential client is at in regards to the lingo. Having an SEO acronym resource helps but how likely is it that your client knows about it or has it open when they are talking to you? Do they even want to spend the time un-coding your e-mail? All good questions. My $0.02

I agree with you ZNicola and JFJ3rd - The difference between SEO and SEM is enough to confuse most of my clients!

The SEP acro was one that a client of mine asked me about. I would guess that someone trying to sell him on their services threw the pretty phrase at him. I’m glad that the two of you see it in the same light, a bad and evil dark light, but not purple, just dark.
